Projection: 1st Round
Notes:
(+) Arm strength Carson Strong will step into the NFL with above-average arm strength. He has excellent velocity on difficult intermediate throws as well as necessary distance to make any conceivable deep throw.
(+) Ability to throw into NFL windows Occasionally, Carson Strong will throw into windows so small that they barely exist, and his ability to not only see those NFL-sized windows but make those throws is something that will set him apart from other prospects in his class.
(+) Short and intermediate accuracy Strong has excellent short and intermediate accuracy. His ability to throw the ball within 15-20 yards of the line of scrimmage is NFL ready.
(-) Strength of Schedule Whereas Nevada played a lot of non-power 5 teams last season, they have a far more challenging schedule this season. The season opener, in which Strong will face California’s vaunted defense, will be a true test for Strong.
(-) Deep Ball Accuracy Strong can clearly make the deep throws, but the key question entering 2021 is can he do it more consistently?
(-) Internal clock Sometimes Strong holds the ball for too long and, because of his lack of mobility, he has a difficult time keeping the play alive against the pass rush. I’d like to see Strong be more willing to throw the ball away and also break the pocket in order to make more off-schedule plays.
