Preseason Scouting Report by Dylan Price

Created August 24, 2021

Projection: 1st Round
Notes:

(+) Burst Anderson demonstrated excellent burst at times when checking out his film. Specifically, in the Auburn game, he looked as if he had been shot out of a cannon. Anderson was able to capitalize on this at points in both the Auburn game and Cincinnati game where he made waves.

(+) Production Given Playing Time Despite the fact Anderson was a situational pass rusher, when he came in he made his presence known. His burst was on full display and he had the ability to disrupt plays and produce doing so. He racked up an impressive 5.5 sacks in just 9 games, which given the guys in front of him, and the team’s competition within the SEC, is all the more impressive.

(+) Range Anderson does not stop until the play is dead and constantly works to chase down whoever has the ball in their hands. He flashed some of his range in the Cincinnati game as he would work off his man then continue to chase down the quarterback until the play was dead, despite Desmond Ridder’s mobility. (-) More Reps Anderson did not get enough cracks at flashing all he was capable of behind Azeez Ojulari and others last season. This season, he should garner more playing time and more opportunity to demonstrate growth in the leadup to the draft.

(-) Better Hands This may very well be one of Anderson’s biggest flaws, working one on one with linemen, he struggles to efficiently use his hands. He tends to swing wildly at times and wastes motion. The difference between the Auburn and Cincinnati games were evident, but growth is still needed.

(-) Closing Ability Anderson struggles to close when he gets in the backfield at times. It’s evident on tape as he fails to convert pressures into sacks. Although disruption is good, sacks will move him farther up mine and other’s draft boards.
